**ABORT Mission: Love Letters About Choice, From Women Who Were Freed**

*By Felicia Seamón*

**Abridged Foreword**

In a time where choices are increasingly controlled and regulated, it has become imperative to cultivate a space for stories that matter — stories that embody the strength, struggles, and sovereignty of women. This collection, entitled *ABORT Mission*, breathes life into the experiences of women who have faced the deeply personal decision of abortion. With each letter, we aim to illuminate not only the myriad of reasons why these decisions were made, but also the enduring power of agency in shaping one’s future.

**Abridged Introduction: The Right to Choose**

In 1973, the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade gave women the constitutional right to choose what happens to their bodies. But, as history narrates, rights are not guaranteed and can be stripped away. With the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade, many women find themselves navigating a landscape riddled with confusion, fear, and judgment. Through the stories of women who battled societal norms, stigma, and legal constraints, *ABORT Mission* is volume 1 of a collection of voices — a counter-narrative to the silence that too often cloaks these experiences.

**Abridged Letter 1: Witness Testimony - A Letter from Felicia, age 50**

Dear Readers,

This project holds a mirror to our society, reflecting the truths many wish to overlook. The decision to abort is not one that is taken lightly; it is often laden with emotion, context, and the nuances of individual circumstances. I, too, walked that path. It was a decision marked by love, fear, and a resolute understanding of my life’s direction. In sharing these letters, my hope is to foster empathy and understanding, to heal the wounds of shame, and to reclaim the narrative around abortion.

Thank you for joining me on this journey and I look forward to sharing my story for the future generations of women who may have to fight to choose.

With all my heart,

Felicia

2. **Sophia, age 34**

"My partner and I had been trying to conceive for years, and then it happened — but the doctor’s voice echoed in my mind: a high-risk pregnancy. I made the choice for both of us. It wasn't about giving up, it was about survival. My story is one of love; love for myself and love for the life I would have to continue living."

3. **Emma, age 29**

"I had just started a new job. The timing felt wrong. I felt like I was barely taking control of my life, and this was not the right moment for me to become a mother. I chose my career, my dreams, and my freedom over societal expectations."

4. **Tina, age 25**

"I was in college, chasing a career in medicine while juggling life’s burdens. A baby wasn’t in my plans. I felt relief when I made the decision. I love kids, but I wasn’t ready to become a mother, and that’s okay."

5. **Shey age 54**

“I sat on the edge of my bed, cradling my newborn in one arm while holding the results of my pregnancy test in the other. The weight of my unexpected pregnancy pressed heavily on my chest.

Just months ago, I had joyfully given birth, embracing motherhood for the second time. Now, haunted by memories of sleepless nights and the overwhelming responsibilities ahead, I faced a gut-wrenching decision: should I welcome another child into my life amidst the chaos, or choose to terminate the pregnancy for my own well-being? As tears streamed down my face, I grappled with the conflicting emotions of love, fear, hope, and uncertainty.”

**Reflections and Advocacy**

As you read through these heartfelt letters, it will become clear that the act of abortion is intertwined with identity, circumstance, and vision for the future. Each woman’s experience is a testament to their right to choose, a choice that should remain unencumbered by government restrictions or societal judgment.

*ABORT Mission* is not just a collection of narratives; it is a clarion call for rights. Stories hold a power that can challenge systemic norms and inspire change. Through awareness, we can dismantle the shame and stigma surrounding abortion and protect the rights of women for generations to come.

**Remembering Our Freedom**

In documenting these stories, we share not only an understanding of individual rights but also a collective responsibility to safeguard the freedom of choice. History has shown us that rights can be earned but must continually be fought for. By reading these narratives, embracing these experiences, understanding these choices, and documenting this history, we can illuminate a path toward a future where women are free to decide without fear of retribution or judgement. We own our decisions boldly and unapologetically.

Let us remain vigilant, compassionate, and unwavering in our support for reproductive rights. It is a fight worth engaging in. Together, we can honor the voices of those who have shared their truth and ensure the freedom to choose remains in our hands.

*EPILOGUE: A Call to Action*

As we conclude this collection, I invite you to engage further. Share these stories, advocate for women's rights, and perhaps, contribute your own voice to this ongoing dialogue. Let us not forget the lessons of the past; let us harness our collective energy to ensure that future generations understand the importance of choice and the value of their freedoms.
