In 2016, Netflix took a pretty popular, 1984 Animated TV series called Voltron: Defenders of the Universe, created by: World Events Productions (WEP) and rebooted it as an animated series for a new audience.
The 1984 animated TV series was on air for about one year, and lasted about a half hour per episode, and it was edited and translated from anime for the American viewers. IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE MISSING!
This series just blew me away with all of the colors and how fantastic the lions looked. The Voltron series had it all! Some of the story lines were over my head then, but I enjoyed every minute of it and I know that my friends felt the same way. I could not wait until my birthday or Christmas to get one and eventually all of the Voltron Lions I had to be the first on my block to have one. There have been other substandard reboots of the Voltron animated series such as:
Voltron: Fleet of Doom, created by WEP in 1986
Votron: Third Dimension created by WEP in 1998
Votron: Force created by WEP in 2011
The other series did not live up to the orinal, and the toys did nothing for me! The new rebooted Voltron: Legendary Defender series was created by Netflix, DreamWorks Animation, and WEP and animated by Studio Mir. This is a retelling of the old story with a different back story of all of the characters and lions. Netflix did such a good job with this project, like they rejuvenated a piece of my childhood. I am looking forward to season 3, which is set to air on Netflix on August 2nd.
If you (or your kids) are not familiar with Voltron Lions (Black, Green, Red, Yellow and Blue), I urge you to take a binge watch of it one weekend! And YES, it is that good... I'm just saying.
So does Netflix and DreamWorks have any more plans to reboot any other old cartoons such as M.A.S.K., Silverhawks, Bionic Six, The Centurions or my personal favorite, Battle of the Planets “G Force”, just to name a few? What do you think?
